THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE: PACK LIGHT

Pack_light_for_the_weekend

You've got places to go and people to see. One piece of carry-on size luggage? The objective is to pack enough outfits to cover your time away in as small a space as possible. Place at the bottom of your bag items such as sweaters, jeans etc. as they will be taking the full weight of clothes placed on top and it doesn't matter too much if they arrive a bit wrinkled. The last item to go in your bag should be anything tailored that will need hanging and airing on arrival. A bag with shoe pockets is essential for keeping them separate and internal zip pockets are ideal for toiletries and loose cufflinks. We've thought it through and here's what we'll be taking. We'll be packing one tailored jacket, one tailored trouser, one casual cotton trouser, three shirts, one cashmere sweater, formal shoes, socks etc. and accessories such as cufflinks. Then wear another outfit to travel; we'll be wearing casual shoes, jeans, shirt, cashmere knitwear and lightweight cashmere/silk scarf too. Just right, all the essentials and a couple of changes. Enjoy!

IPAD STYLE STATEMENT

(download)
Perfectly designed, these leather iPad cases make a luxurious and stylish statement.  Bill Amberg has turned his creative focus on the slim and elegant iPad to produce this sharp yet practical case. Made from 100% smooth bridle leather in classic colours with coloured lining and detail, even if every iPad looks the same you can add your own expression of individuality with one of these. With the launch of the iPad 2 this month it's perfect timing to get your hands on one of these.

We recently met with the charming and talented Mr. Amberg in Florence, Italy where he showed us these fabulous iPad cases and leather luggage collection. A particular Bill Amberg specialism is the creation of travel accessories and the traditional application of quality leather. He is famous for his coveted luxury leather goods and for his love of all things motor cars, he spent six years restoring his silver Lancia so it will be no surprise to hear that the luggage we just couldn't resist stocking are called Triumph and Jensen and inspired by the interiors of old English sports cars!

TOO PRECIOUS TO RACE - BUGATTI HEAVEN

(download)

Sifting through some research material, I stumbled across this article from FT.com/Magazine that I have obviously put aside for safekeeping, and for good reason as the imagery is absolutely beautiful and the story fascinating. To think that an anonymous looking building could hold a treasure trove of engineering genius in an age when everything is computerised makes me want to seek out Mr. Timothy Dutton and shake his hand. He is third generation MD of Bugatti specialists Ivan Dutton Ltd who employ their rare skills to ensure the upkeep and revival of Bugattis. One thing that interested me is that Timothy's father Ivan served an apprenticeship in pattern-making before joining the family business and here at my tailoring showrooms I have Bugatti images on the wall. But the thing that struck me most is the true beauty of the images by fashion photographer Koto Bolofo.

GET YOUR COAT - MACKINTOSH OPEN IN LONDON

Mackintosh-bespoke

Fellow Scot, Mackintosh is opening a new store in London. We found this article, RETURN OF THE MAC in the business section of the The Scotsman online (business.scotsman.com) and it makes for an interesting read. We are fortunate enough to have seen the Mackintosh craft in action at their factory in Scotland and it's true; there are big dods of glue applied with great skill. We'll be heading to Mount Street very soon for a bit of retail therapy!
