It seems like only yesterday that we last wrote. And yet, it was in fact over three weeks ago. Time flies when you are having fun, so the saying goes, and we have been having fun. When you embark on a new project, nobody reminds you that there’s a whole heap of detail to look over do they? So it’s been ‘head-down’ and ‘focus’.
The door to our new online shop and website opened this week and we’re excited. We think you’ll like it. We thought it completely appropriate at this time, with the USA Peter Johnston at Saks launch and the extension of our bespoke tailoring services in Scotland, to give ourselves a crash course in who we are and what we do, and then re-fresh our website to share that with you. A good number of our friends already know about our hand crafted ties, cashmere scarves and other luxury accessories and have entrusted us with their sartorial elegance from the showroom. Todd & Duncan is now the acknowledged leader in production of finest quality cashmere yarns for the world's most famous knitwear brands and is constantly refining and developing new colours to keep pace with changing fashion needs. The Kinross spinning mills on the picturesque shores of Loch Leven employ specialist skills in spinning high quality single ply cashmere yarn. The most important factor in the quality of cashmere is the length and fineness of the fibres. Garments made with long and thin fibres, as this one is, pill less and maintain their shape.
Curiously, the softness of a cashmere garment does not always guarantee quality as inferior cashmere of short length fibres can make a garment ‘fluffy’ but are likely to pill and wear out sooner. All our sweaters and cardigans are knitted using only the longest, finest woollen spun yarns made in Scotland, giving a less fluffy appearance and a significantly higher quality garment. Once you have worn cashmere of this quality, other yarns become less desirable. With care, investing in a superior quality cashmere sweater will reward you for a long time.
Think Autumn and we are shifting from shorts to shirts again. There's a chill in the air so it's time to turn our attentions to our winter clothing. The significance of winter wardrobe planning now is to ensure that all the essentials (and luxuries) are in place meaning we can concentrate on other things again. Job done.

Nothing beats the drape of soft, light cashmere. A pure cashmere coat is light yet remarkably warm. Aside from its softness, a key advantage of cashmere is that it is insulating, so you get warmth in a light weight and it allows for good movement too.Not all cashmeres are equal and quality is a contributing factor to the price tag. It's the cashmere fibres taken from the throat and underbelly of a goat that tend to be the most expensive, as these fibres are long and substantial in order to keep the goat's vital organs warm.
