SAKS FIFTH AVENUE LAUNCHES BESPOKE TAILORING FROM DESIGNER PETER JOHNSTON

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, NY (June 8, 2011) - This fall, Saks Fifth Avenue brings the best of British style to the U.S. as designer Peter Johnston exclusively launches his bespoke tailoring, ready-to-wear and accessories collections in New York, Chicago and Washington D.C (Chevy Chase). Mr. Johnston was selected after an extensive search for a designer who is well versed in traditional British tailoring with a modern sensibility.

"When we looked at our assortment we saw a return to heritage British fabrics, like Scottish tweeds," said Tom Ott, Senior Vice President and GMM. "We wanted to take the next logical step by bringing on board a talented young British designer with a strong background in Savile Row tailoring who could bring a fresh, modern interpretation of British style to our customers".

Mr. Johnston graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Men's Wear Fashion from London's Royal College of Art in 1995. He was the first British winner of the coveted Italian tailoring and design competition, the 'Aga D'Oro' (Golden Needle). Prior to starting his eponymous label, Peter worked as design director for Savile Row tailors Kilgour and Chester Barrie, and for London-based luxury retailers, Dunhill and Joseph.

In 2004, Mr. Johnston established his own label, 'Peter Johnston, Scotland', providing bespoke tailoring and shirt making services as well as a range of luxury ready-to-wear, accessories, shoes and leather goods. Until now, his collection was only available by appointment at his townhouse headquarters in the fashionable Queen Street district of Edinburgh, Scotland or via select Isetan & Mitsukoshi retail locations throughout Japan.

To ensure U.S. clients receive the same level of service as International clients, Mr. Johnston will be travelling to Saks Fifth Avenue's New York, Chicago and Chevy Chase locations on a monthly basis for private appointments, personal appearances and trunk shows.

BALBLAIR COLLABORATES WITH PETER JOHNSTON.

(download)

Balblair Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky has partnered with Scotland’s foremost bespoke tailor Peter Johnston to create a specially designed Balblair tie. The bespoke tie represents the shared philosophy of both Balblair single malt whisky and Peter Johnston – a luxurious timeless classic which is diligently hand crafted to the highest possible quality.

Only a limited number of Balblair ties will be created and presented to the brand’s key UK and international suppliers. The initiative forms part of Balblair’s ongoing strategy to showcase high quality, handcrafted classics which are timed to perfection.

The pure silk ties will be midnight blue with Balblair’s signature ‘B’ creating a subtle pattern throughout. Each tie will be painstakingly hand cut and assembled by Peter Johnston’s skilled team of artisans to his unique specification. Made from the highest quality silk threads, with an exclusive 350 warp threads per inch, the ties will have a lustrous finish, and improved strength, weight, texture and fall.  No artificial additives will be added to the yarn and the tie’s interior construction will be made from 100% brushed wool, to provide body and elasticity.

Balblair is the only distillery to solely produce vintage expression whiskies which are handpicked by the Distillery Manager after a complex tasting and nosing process. Only the finest whiskies – those that have reached the peak of their perfection – are chosen and named by the year that they were laid down in cask.

Edinburgh-based bespoke tailor Peter Johnston was perfectly placed to create the Balblair tie. His passion for the best in un-rushed craftsmanship, sophistication, design and materials has led him to grow an enviable client base ranging from premiership football personalities to business tycoons.

Andy Hannah, Brand Manager, Balblair Highland Single Malt Whisky says: Balblair is delighted to announce this new creative partnership. Peter Johnston’s commitment to producing high quality, hand crafted classics aligns perfectly with Balblair’s brand values. The Balblair tie is an ideal initiative to showcase the unique craftsmanship behind Balblair’s vintage single malts.

Peter Johnston, Proprietor, www.peter-johnston.co.uk says: Scotland has an enviable reputation for luxury and heritage, non more-so perhaps than textiles and whisky, which is why we at Peter Johnston are so delighted to have entered in to a new creative partnership with Balblair. We share a belief that the best is worth waiting for, so we are two Scottish businesses sharing the same language. We both craft unique timeless products and it is an honour to work so closely with Balblair.
